3/26/13    Bailey is Proud to Support the March for Babies Bailey is Proud to Support the March for Babies
KNOXVILLE, TN -- Each year, more than half a million babies are born prematurely, and more than 120,000 babies are born with serious birth defects. Thankfully, the March of Dimes is there to help. March for Babies — the nation’s premier walk event — raises awareness and funds to support lifesaving research and innovative programs that help prevent premature birth and improve the health of babies. In addition to research, the money donated to the March of Dimes helps them bring information and comfort to parents with a baby in the NICU and helps more women and children in our community get access to health care.

Touched by this cause, Bailey has decided to help raise awareness for the March of Dimes mission and participate in the March for Babies.

You have also been impacted by the March of Dimes if:

  • You or your baby received a polio vaccine
  • Your baby was cared for in a newborn intensive care unit (NICU)
  • Your baby was born prematurely and received the advanced care that the March of Dimes has researched, funded and supported
  • You are aware that women of childbearing age should take a multivitamin with folic acid to decrease the risk of neural tube defects
  • You are aware that alcohol, tobacco and drug use during pregnancy can result in serious health problems for moms and babies
  • Your baby or a baby you know suffered from respiratory distress syndrome and received lifesaving surfactant therapy
If you are interested in supporting our efforts to march to help babies, or know someone who is, please visit http://www.marchforbabies.org/s_team_page.asp?seid=2035984 – to join our team or make a donation. .

Thank you in advance for your support and participation in helping us reach our goal of $4,000!

8/30/12    Bailey International marks shift back to USA
Updated Sept. 11, 2012

KNOXVILLE, TN -- In the last two years Bailey International LLC has made capital investments in excess of one million dollars to bolster production capacity. A robotic welder added in 2011 enables more consistent output and weld quality while speeding up throughput by approximately 50%.

In the first quarter of this year the company took delivery of a special purpose machine designed to more accurately facilitate higher volume cylinder tube production. This SPM completes four preparatory operations resulting in a finished, ready to weld hydraulic cylinder tube in one third the usual time. The capacity gains from the addition of these two machines are estimated to increase production in the Knoxville factory by over 50% by end of the year with future gains anticipated.

Even more exciting is the number of people added to the Bailey International team. From a peak of 70 employees prior to the economic meltdown of 2008, Bailey currently has 134 team members with efforts underway to add 8 to 10 more in the coming weeks. Over the last six months alone, the Bailey team has grown by more than 20%.

There is no doubt that the global economy is a driving force effecting companies large and small. Over the years Bailey has cultivated many important relationships with supply chain partners in America and abroad. Marking a shift from previous years, products currently made by U.S. companies account for 40% of Bailey’s total sales to date, representing an encouraging improvement of more than 20%. To remain competitive Bailey continues to work with key overseas suppliers to ensure that it is able to deliver quality products to its many customers. However, it is encouraging that the company continues to increase both production and jobs opportunities here in the U.S and the local Knoxville community.

8/10/12    Making Strides, Bailey helps fight breast cancer Making Strides, Bailey helps fight breast cancer
KNOXVILLE, TN – Bailey International was contacted by an American Cancer Society representative on July 20, 2012 to attend an informational breakfast about the ACS breast cancer program “Making Strides”. Bailey representatives were compelled by the stories of cancer survivors and families to support the ACS Making Strides initiative.

Bailey’s goal is to raise over $2,000 in donations by October 6, 2012, and have as many as 50 team members walk in the 5K ACS: Making Strides event on October 7, 2012. Each Bailey team member has been asked to raise at least $100 by asking family and friends to donate on their behalf. The Bailey sales team has been asked to encourage their customers to make a donation to the Bailey team as well. Customers that donate will have the opportunity to contribute a pink ribbon card with their name, or a loved one’s name, to be dedicated on the sales wall. Weekly, Bailey will share the growth of the ribbon’s wall on its website and social media platforms.

The Human Resources Department has planned several events from August 20, 2012 to October 6, 2012 that they hope will boost employee camaraderie and raise donations. Such events include a pancake breakfast, Pink Shirts Day, a bake sale, a pink lemonade sale, Football Jersey Day, and a pizza party in the employee break-room. A loose change jar has been placed in front of the company break-room so that employees can donate their change each day.

From August 9, 2012 to October 6, 2012, Kevin Bailey, the chief executive officer, has pledged to donate $1 for every new Facebook ‘like’ and Twitter ‘follow’ the company receives, up to $500. Team Bailey hopes that through its donations and participation, it can provide help to those affected with breast cancer in the Knoxville community, as well as fund cancer research for the elimination of this horrible disease forever.

12/2/11    Thirteen Years of Holiday Joy: Bailey & Salvation Army Thirteen Years of Holiday Joy: Bailey & Salvation Army
Each year during the weeks leading up to Christmas, Bailey Sales Corporation collects donations of money and gifts for those less fortunate through the Salvation Army's Angel Tree and Red Kettle programs. Employees at Bailey, along with various companies in the community, contributed to the cause, bringing their filled stockings and bags to Bailey before they are dropped off at Salvation Army headquarters.

Linda Austin, who works within the Accounting Department at Bailey, has organized and managed donations for nine of the 13 years Bailey has participated in this event. "I absolutely love Christmas," said Austin. "I think it's because I still have a lot of kid in me.

"It's such a good feeling to know that you are contributing to the happiness of a child on Christmas morning, especially those kids who would not have received any gifts at all. My greatest joy comes from helping the most neglected age groups at Christmas, the 13 to 18-year-olds and the elderly. I really look forward to it every year. One thing is for sure though; it would not be possible without the help of everyone involved. It's very much a team effort."

Bailey employees filled 40 bags of clothes, toys and goodies for needy kids. Hundreds of stockings were stuffed for needy children and the elderly. Austin is hopeful that Bailey will help the Salvation Army succeed at reaching its goal of 5,500 stockings this Christmas. Chief cylinders hold the skid shoes in place, which push the stalk forward, preventing excessive tire wear and damage. The shoes can also be lifted and folded using the hydraulic cylinders, allowing for easy storage and transport over obstacles.

7/28/11    Bailey's Quality Warehouse: Open for Business Bailey Presents its New
Bailey's continuous growth has presented unique and challenging opportunities for its fulfillment team to serve customers in a revolutionary way. Lack of space was one of the main challenges. "With our previous offsite warehouse bursting at the seams, we began a search for new space that would allow us to consolidate our current offsite storage facilities while providing expansion room for future new product offerings."

Bailey recently completed the installation of racks in its new 25,000 square foot warehouse facility, which contains more than 220 bays and over 2400 storage locations. Additionally, the facility has 5900 square feet of floor storage for bulk product. The "Quality" warehouse, named after Bailey's commitment to its customers, is now half full with products that have been consolidated from multiple storage facilities. Bailey is proud to say that it is now receiving and shipping from this location daily.

5/5/11    Customer Satisfaction Story: Marion Catt builds Industrial Blower ("Jimi-G") with Parts from Bailey A Unique Application for Bailey Parts: the
At Bailey, we LOVE to see what our customers are accomplishing using our parts and equipment!

In late April, we were pleased to receive some photos and a short note from one of our customers, Marion Catt, owner of Catt's Hobby Shop in Grant Park, Illinois. The photos were of an industrial-sized, leaf-blowing machine that Catt had built with parts purchased from Bailey. He has named the machine "Jimi-G" after a dear friend. In the note he included, Catt expressed his thanks for the great customer service he received from our team, specifically naming Bill Jones, Susan Dale and Scott Hall, from whom he had purchased Chief valves, a hydraulic motor, power unit and a welded cylinder. The body of Catt's "Jimi-G" is a machine designed to mow the fairways of golf courses and the large fan he attached at the front came from a Chicago train station. The "Jimi-G" has proven to be extremely useful for clearing the leaves off of Catt's two-and-a-half-acre wooded property. "Before, it took me two days to rake. But with this machine, it takes 30 minutes to blow and collect the leaves," said Catt. We are impressed!

We are proud of our quality products and excellent customer service. If you are using our parts in a cool, unique application or if you have received great customer service from one of our team members, we would love to hear about it! Email us at customerstories@baileynet.com to submit your story!

4/18/11    The Bailey engineering team utilizes the latest technology to provide customers with quality products at a great value. A Great Product Starts with a Great Design
At Bailey, we know a great product starts with a great design. That's why we invest in the right tools for our engineering team, including 3-D CAD Solidworks and other tools such as Simulate (FEA) and Driveworks (semi-automatic drawing and quoting). We are continually upgrading our tools, processes and hardware to ensure that we are staying up-to-date with the latest technology in our field. This allows us to supply the right information to our customers with speed and accuracy.

Recently our IT and engineering teams built a prototype work station (a computer used for engineering or heavy graphics) to ensure that we have the fastest machine at the right value. We tested our computer against others and found it to be the fastest. The benchmark for this test is a Scooby Doo surface model that is rebuilt and clocked. The Bailey-built work station was fastest at 9.9 seconds!

You can see the Scooby Doo surface model here and find the results of the test here.

We strive to provide revolutionary service throughout our business, including the engineering department. To speak to one of our engineers or to get a quote for a custom cylinder or power unit, please call 1-800-800-1810.

3/17/11    Bailey is dedicated to "Going Green" on St. Patrick's Day and every day! Bailey Goes
Ken Baker, Chief Operating Officer at Bailey, specializes in Manufacturing Process Improvement. Recently, Ken compiled some of Bailey's environmental improvements in an effort to share this good news with our customers.

Several energy-saving strategies were implemented regarding lighting in the warehouse. All sodium lighting was converted to fluorescent lighting, significantly reducing power use. Lighting sensors were also installed. These sensors time-out after a certain duration period, conserving energy. The trash compactor allows for fewer trips for trash removal, thus lowering operational cost and waste space. Our hydraulic dump further reduces effort by capturing both waste coolant and metal for easy recycling of both materials.

Visit www.baileynet.com for updates on how Bailey is reducing waste and conserving energy in order to reduce impact on our environment while serving our customers.

According to Tim Waldo, Director of HPU Business Development, "This improvement event has increased the overall efficiency of the HPU Team and was an important step toward providing our customers with a wider range of hydraulic power units to suit their needs."

We've thoroughly upgraded our manufacturing and distribution facilities and we invite you to come tour our facility to get a firsthand look at how we operate and what sets our business apart. We'll listen to your improvement suggestions and give you an opportunity to take some new ideas back to your business.

Once again, Happy New Year! And thank you so much for your trust in Bailey.

Sincerely,
Kevin

11/20/10    New Process Contributes to Continuous Improvement: Saves Time, Increases Safety New Process Contributes to Continuous Improvement
A recent example of our ongoing, line driven, continuous improvement is that exhibited by Bobby in our cylinder assembly team. Past processes used a manual spanner wrench to hold our screw-in gland stable while assembling. In conjunction with our Maintenance Team, the Assembly Team worked to find a faster, safer, lower cost system. With the straightforward design of a block and pin system (shown), the gland is now held in place, without the use of the spanner wrench. The system is faster because the spanner wrench orientation does not have to be found. The spanner wrenches also slipped and broke often during assembly, creating cost and safety issues. This activity was driven without management direction, but directly through cross-team improvement activities.

10/13/10    Robot Welding Production Runs to Begin at Bailey Robot Welding Production Runs to Begin at Bailey
Bailey is excited to announce the startup of production runs using its new Motoman 1900 Robot. The Motoman 1900 robot and the Motoman ArcWorld 6000 weld cell offers the most flexible work arrangement for Bailey customers. With extensive machining and welding development, Bailey is ready to once again expand production volumes and continue to be both the quality and cost leader in its industry. Single cell tube machining, as part of our overall robot welding process, allows significant improvement in processing, using our Mazak CNC machining lathes for accurate cylinder port orientation. Weld robot quality, speed and regularity will allow faster, higher quality welds.
